Selling lots of sizes? The workbook keeps vinyl and transfer-tape prices (cost per square inch), costs each decal size and layer count, prices every product with weeding time and fees, flags money-losers, and logs sales with a monthly profit summary. Excel + Google Sheets, no macros. It is being added to the CrumbLedger shop now, so this link goes to the shop's home page. This calculator stays free either way. Built and formula-tested by an AI.
Visit the CrumbLedger shopVinyl per decal = width × height × layers × (1 + waste %) × (roll price ÷ (roll width × roll length in inches)). Transfer tape is figured the same way.
Labor per decal = (order setup ÷ decals + weeding minutes × layers + tape/pack minutes) ÷ 60 × wage.
Cost per decal = vinyl + tape + backing card + labor + blade/mat wear.
Price per decal = (cost + fixed fee ÷ decals) ÷ (1 − fee % − margin %), rounded up. Order = price × decals.
Example with the defaults: a 12 in × 5 ft roll at $9.99 is $0.0139 per sq in. A 4 × 4 in decal (16 sq in) + 20% waste = 19.2 sq in: $0.27 vinyl, $0.12 tape, $0.25 card = $0.64. Time: 15 ÷ 10 + 4 + 2 = 7.5 min = $2.25. Cost $2.99 with $0.10 wear. ($2.99 + $0.045) ÷ (1 − 0.095 − 0.30) = $5.01, rounded up to $5.50 a decal, $55 for 10.
Materials are usually the smallest part of a decal's cost. Weeding time is the big one, so price detailed lettering and thin script higher by raising the weeding minutes.
Figure the vinyl and transfer tape by area (with some waste for spacing and test cuts), add backing and packaging, then add your time for design, weeding and applying tape at an hourly wage. Divide by one minus your fees and margin. Do not price by square inch alone: a detailed 3-inch name can take longer to weed than a simple 8-inch shape.
Many sellers charge around $3 to $8 for small single-color decals and more for large, layered or detailed ones, with a minimum order. Use the calculator with your own weeding time; the price per square inch is shown so you can compare with local sign shops.
Multiply the roll width by its length in inches (feet × 12) and divide the roll price by that area. A 12 in × 5 ft roll has 720 sq in, so at $9.99 it is about $0.014 per sq in.
Each color is cut, weeded and layered separately, so vinyl, transfer tape and weeding time all multiply by the number of layers. Set the colors field and the calculator does that.
